Barbara Hochstrasser

Burnout Syndrome Expert
MD, MPH

Barbara Hochstrasser, MD, MPH, received her medical training at the Medical University of Bern, Switzerland, and psychiatric training at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard University, Boston, USA. Subsequently, she worked for several years at the Psychiatric University Hospital in Zurich, Switzerland. In addition, she received a Master of Public Health from the Harvard School of Public Health. She pursued further public health and epidemiology training at the John Hopkins University School of Public Health, Baltimore, USA.

She was the former chief physician of the Private Clinic Meiringen, Switzerland, and is active in several educational institutions. At the Private Clinic Meiringen, she has developed an integrated treatment program for patients with exhaustion syndrome (burnout). Her main scientific interests are psychiatric epidemiology and psychopharmacology, especially concerning affective disorders and burnout. She has written several papers on these topics and founded the Swiss Burnout Expert Network.

Dr. med. Hochstrasser was a board member of the Swiss Society for Biological Psychiatry and the Aids Commission of the Swiss National Science Foundation. She is also a member of the Executive Board of the National Coordination Office for Quality Assurance in Health Care.
